I love how ridiculous the presuppositional apologetic makes atheism look and Bahnsan does an awesome job of taking Van Til’s apologetic and making it more understandable. It bugs me that people either accept all it too quickly or reject it all too quickly. How can an atheist ever make a moral judgment if morals are merely a sequence of atoms smashing around in his brain that produce a stimulus in the body that causes a reaction? Ex N1hilo November 2, It’s Scriptural I don’t know about you, but I get frustrated when I read any work of Theology- including apologetic material- only to find that Scripture isn’t even used to support the main thesis.
Now, does the laws of logic exist outside of the human mind? Do you know for certain we use our brains to conceive ideas that alwzys call faith to perceive the unknown?
For instance, a book on the problem of evil may be recommended separately from a book on the cosmological argument for God’s existence. But then again what makes readh good story is an evil villain. Alwayss one major issue I dont agree with Bahnsan or Vahnsen Til on is calvanism but thats a whole Best book I’ve read on the subject!! Peace be with you, Readg. However, in my estimation, the editor Randy Booth did a good job organizing the various chapters in the book in a clear, logical order. If one is bahsen then they would not go against God’s will.
The first half of the book is extremely easy to read and smoothly explains each aspect of presup. Much of his apologetics in action takes aim at either old reday decrepit, or weak, attacks on the Christian faith. Those who deny His existence are suppressing the truth in unrighteousness to avoid accountability to God.

He recognizes the fact that one cannot “serve two Masters” for he will either “hate the one” or “love the other. This work gives us some of the content of what was going on in the mind of this notable apologist, whom John Frame even believed was the best debater for Presuppositionalism. If we are to be “always ready” for defending Christianity, it would have been nice to hear some slways in which we can point out poor thinking; Perhaps a more comprehensive expounding of the 2-step method of showing a fool his alwats and then answering a fool in his folly.

The one major issue I dont agree with Bahnsan or Van Til on is calvanism but thats a whole different subject Some have commented that this work is rather disorganized or repetitive. We need to follow in Paul’s footsteps and preach the truth of God’s Word, not man’s wisdom. The second part adress several philosophical problems of our time naturalism, the problem of evil, plurality and relativism.
This approach is for the nonbelievers.
Brian, do you think that Bahnsen’s approach can be harmonized with an evidentialist approach? Bahnsen was the scholar-in-residence at the Southern California Center for Christian Studies and an ordained minister iin the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. It is in the fifth section pages that the rubber hits the road and things get really exciting. I suppose when most Christians refer to certain defenses made on behalf of Christianity, they tend to recommend specific lectures or books by learned apologists on the particular subject.
I think it is very beneficial to promote discussion on an epistemological level with unbelievers. All men have in common the world created by God, controlled by God, and constantly revealing God. In the realm of law and government this thinking is horrendously common. And, not all materialists are like the crass, Democratean sort Bahnsen attacks.
Bahnsen has brought Van Til down to a more accessible level in this book, and that is a good thing. Bahnsen’s published works on Christian apologetics, including his Apologetics syllabus, articles on practical rexdy problems like the problem of evil, the problem of miracles, readdy.
So there is nothing that I am doing that is against God’s will here. It has given me a better understanding of the importance of Presuppositionalism. I applaud this concern for all aspects of our defense of the faith. That is, he is epistemologically become a law unto himself: Greg Bahnsen was a champion of the Christian faith and expert slayer of little heinous green philosophies. In many apologetic encounters, baynsen reasoning might go over the person’s head.
Having recently been on a bit of a philosophy bender or reading, I find this highly refreshing as only Christians have anything to point to, hold to and claim as “the truth”.
